This is what a self-serving central administration does: It cuts teachers, guidance counselors, aids to the most vulnerable students; requires that all teachers take a 2% salary cut. And it gives its own staff 113 salary increases. In an earlier version of this blog I misstated the rates of increase because I misunderstood the rate column on the spreadsheet. It means rate of pay, not increase. That being said…
This is exactly what SPS Central Administration did from 9/1/09 to the present, according to the June, 2011 document “Non-Represented Promotions and Reclassifications.” Many of these raises are for “Title Changes” and “Lateral Transfer”. All occurred during a rolling budget crisis when positions that directly impacted students were being cut.
The incumbents are now claiming that Central Administration has been reduced by 1/3. This is misleading since some of the reduction came from reclassifying positions and moving them to other parts of the district budget. A number of people in the community are attempting to clarify this in the absence of clarification from the district.
It’s up to the School Board to engage with the public in a transparent manner and to ensure that the district is using funds to meet the priorities the board has set. If elected I’ll work with other board members to ensure that we’re funding from the classroom up, making the needs of our students priority #1. And I’ll ensure complete transparency.
